In liquid state the compound is transparent but it becomes opaque when it reaches the freezing point. This helps the placement and orientation of the sample before it reaches the frozen state. It is easily soluble in water, chemically inert. Its high viscosity ensures a strong adhesion of the tissue to the support.
The cuts produced with CRYO-M-BED do not damage the surface of the blade.
